Cardinal 03:11
I saw a sign or an omen On the branches in the morning It was right after I lost a friend Without warning Words unsaid Scarlet red Cardinal Are you bringing me a message from the other side? Cardinal Are you telling me I'm on somebody's mind? Don't leave me behind I took a walk in the city To clear my head for a moment Turned my collar to the wind on the street It was blowing And there he was above my head Cardinal Are you bringing me a message from the other side? Cardinal Are you telling me I'm on somebody's mind? Don't leave me behind Are you just watching and waiting for spring Or do you have some kind of magic to bring? (Pretty bird) Are you just watching and waiting for spring Or do you have some kind of magic to bring? (Why? Wait) (Pretty bird) Are you just watching and waiting for spring Or do you have some kind of magic? Cardinal Are you bringing me a message from the other side? Cardinal Are you telling me I'm on somebody's mind? Cardinal Are you bringing me a message from the other side? Cardinal Are you telling me I'm on somebody's mind? Are you bringing me a message from the other side? Cardinal

Deeper Well 03:52
My Saturn has returned When I turned twenty-seven, everything started to change Took a long time, but I learned There's two kinds of people One is a giver, and one's always trying to take All they can take So, I'm saying goodbye To the people that I feel are real good at wasting my time No regrets, baby I just think that maybe You go your way, and I'll go mine It's been a real good time But you've got dark energy Something I can't unsee And I've got to take care of myself I've found a deeper well I used to wake and bake Roll out of bed, hit the gravity bong that I made And start the day For a while, it got me by Everything I did seemed better when I was high I don't know why So, I'm getting rid of the habits That I feel are real good at wasting my time No regrets, baby I just think that maybe It's natural when things lose their shine So other things can glow I've gotten older, now I know How to take care of myself I've found a deeper well Hmm, mmm When I was growing up We had what we needed Shoes on our feet But the world was as flat as a plate And that's okay The things I was taught only took me so far Had to figure the rest out myself And then I found I found a deeper well Hmm, mmm Hmm

Made some breakfast Made some love This is what dreams are made of On a cloudy Monday morning Summers gone and you're still here For both of us it's been a year A tidal wave without a warning Please don't make me regret Opening up that part of myself And I've been scared to give again Be good to me and I'll be good to you But please don't be too good to be true In my mind we're in New York You had never been before But baby now it's our town I'll admit that I'm in deep That I don't know how else to be And I don't wanna slow down Please don't make me regret Opening up that part of myself And I've been scared to give again Be good to me and I'll be good to you But please don't be too good to be true Made some breakfast Made some love If this is what dreams are made of Please don't wake me

Moving Out 03:09
Four walls and so much space It was way more than just a place Wasn't it, babe? The bedroom where you pulled me in I found out love could start again, start again And that big tree in the front yard lost a limb It almost crushed your car, but it didn't Yeah, we kept living in that house Planted roses all around Leaving it better than we found it Now autumn's moving in And we're moving out Hmm Remember I still wore that dress The Christmas that we all got sick and partied anyway I had a breakup, and then I bought it You always said it might be haunted And I think you're right A couple of real big fights that we had I cried, but it was hard to stay mad We had good times, can't deny it And even though I feel excited I'm kind of sad to leave it Now that autumn's moving in And we're moving out We're moving out Hmm

Sundown, and I'm lonely in this house It's feeling one-dimensional to me We've been trying hard to figure out Give and take and how to be But don't you see? I would give you everything that you wanted And I would never ask for any of it back And if I could take only as much as I needed I would take everything you have Sunrise, and you're lying next to me Wrap me in your arms like I'm made of glass I need all your love Not just one piece Hoping that it ain't too much for me to ask 'Cause I would give you everything that you wanted And I would never ask for any of it back And if I could take only as much as I needed I would take everything you have Don't wanna share I want it all All of the time Tell me right now You feel the same And that you're mine Baby Don't you know I'd give you everything that you wanted And I would never ask for any of it back And if I could take only as much as I needed I would take everything I would take everything you have Everything you have

Sway 03:11
When the wind blows It can push you around It can shake you Maybe you can show me 'Cause it seems like you know how to not let it phase you If I didn't wanna take control I could let go Maybe one day I'll learn how to sway Most of the time All the thoughts in my mind keep me running Show me a place where I can just think of nothing If I surrender, if I let go Will you hold me? Maybe one day I'll learn how to sway Like a palm tree in the wind I won't break I'll just bend And I'll sway I'll sway Ah-ah, ah, ah, ah-ah-ah I'll sway I'll sway Like a palm tree in the wind I won't break I'll just bend And I'll sway I'll sway Ah-ah, ah, ah-ah-ah Om, om I'll sway Mm, yeah Oh yeah Ah-ah, ah, ah-ah-ah Om, om I'll sway Mm, yeah Mm, yeah

Dinner with friends In cities where none of us live The face that somebody makes When you give 'em a gift Every once in a while When I wake up early without trying And catch a sunrise The feeling you feel when you're looking at something you made The layers and ruffles in my favorite pink-champagne cake My home state of Texas The sky there and horses and dogs But none of their laws The shape of his eyes The shape of his nose The cute way he mispronounces certain words The smell of his clothes The things I would miss from the other side Intimate convos that go way into the night The way that the sun on my floor makes a pattern of light And early in June when the fireflies first start to glow It never gets old The shape of his heart My shoes by his door He loves me in all of the ways that I've never felt love before Things I would miss From the other side

Under the ground There's a neighborhood that can't be seen And up in the trees, there are voices that are echoing And up in the trees, there are voices that are echoing A million different languages Songs we sing It's in our nature To look out for each other In the heart of the woods When there is danger We'll take care of each other In the heart of the woods It's in our nature To look out for each other In the heart of the woods When there is danger We'll take care of each other In the heart of the woods Heart of the woods

Jade Green 02:58
I wanna bathe in the moonlight Until I'm fully charged Come into my power And heal the broken parts That I carry Hmm-mm Like the bracelet that you bought me I want you on my arm Calm, cool, and protective And keeping me from harm Jade green Jade green I always keep it on me Always keep it on me I can't help it I get anxious And every time we part I say a little prayer To drive away the dark And I'm with you And you're with me Like the bracelet that you gave me Jade green Jade green I always keep it on me Always keep it on me On me On me Hmm, on me

Even something as small as an apple It's simple and somehow complex Sweet and divine The perfect design Can I speak to the architect? And there's a canyon that cuts through the desert Did it get there because of a flood? Was it devised or were you surprised When you saw how grand it was? Was it thought out at all Or just paint on a wall Is there anything that you regret? I don't understand Are there blueprints or plans Can I speak to the architect? Sometimes, I look in the mirror And wish I could make a request Could I pray it away Am I shapable clay Or is this as good as it gets? One day, you're on top of the mountain So high that you'll never come down Then the wind at your back Carries ember and ash That burns your whole house to the ground Is it thought out at all Or just paint on a wall Is there anything that you regret? I don't understand Are there blueprints or plans Can I speak to the architect? I thought that I was too broken And maybe too hard to love I was in a weird place Then I saw the right face And the stars and the planets lined up Does it happen by chance Is it all happenstance Do we have any say in this mess? Is it too late To make some more space Can I speak to the architect? This life that we make, is it random or fate Can I speak to the architect? Is there an architect?

You can step off a plane Into a black car You can pay 'em to wait You can wear a gold watch on your wrist But it won't give you back The moments you miss When I get paid I want to spend it on you And, baby, that's what it's for I'd burn it all to keep you warm Who wants to be a lonely millionaire? Coming home, ain't no one there That you can talk to in your king-size bed Be careful what you wish for I see it all the time The money and the diamonds and the things that shine Can't buy you true happiness La, la, la, la La, la, la, la La, la, la, la La, la, la, la La, la, la, la La, la, la, la All I want All I want All I want Is you All I want All I want All I want Is you Be careful what you wish for I see it all the time The money and the diamonds and the things that shine Can't buy you true happiness La, la, la, la La, la, la, la La, la, la, la Hmm

Heaven Is 02:44
We spent all day where the north wind blows And you bought me a lavender rose Put it in water when we got home That's what heaven is No tears to cry, and nothing to mourn Wearing your shirt so tattered and torn Lying in your arms, so safe and warm That's what heaven is I don't care for money or fame All for you, I'd give it all away The way you sound when you call my name That's what heaven is Nobody knows where we go when we die Maybe we'll ride white horses in the sky And if we don't then, darling, tonight That's what heaven is If all I have is the light in your eyes That's what heaven is

Anime Eyes 03:18
The moon is hanging over us The wind is in the trees We've got nowhere to be, do we, baby? On a piece of paper, you write out your love for me Treasures I'm forever saving Oh, you're such a pretty thing When I look at you, I'm always looking through anime eyes A million little stars bursting into hearts in my anime eyes Made it through the tears to see a Miyazaki sky Now it's you and I, and we're flying Confidently, I can say, I'd almost given up (I almost gave up) Then you showed me how to love without trying Oh, you're such a pretty thing When I look at you, I'm always looking through anime eyes A million little stars bursting into hearts in my anime eyes When I look at you Anime eyes A million little stars, anime eyes Ridiculous hazy, crazy, rainbow, explosions of ecstasy Oh my God, the memories Happy tears overflowing, lightning bolts so overwhelming Ugly crying, now I'm melting Turning into flowers blooming Angels singing, bells are ringing Baby, I'm a love tsunami, washing over both our bodies Sailor Moon's got nothing on me Since the first time that I saw you You've given me Anime eyes Anime eyes
14.
Living on the west side And I think about you often Worrying that I might drive The nail into the coffin I've got my own patterns Maybe I can stop them Holding tight to who you are Like someone's going to take it Bubble wrap around your heart Like someone's going to break it Demons in your mirror Together we'll escape them Come to me and drop your bags And I'll help you unpack them You're the only one I want to give my love There's nothing to be scared of I made a list of everything That I've been busy chasing But if the train is meant for me It won't leave the station and pull away I'll come to you and drop my bags And you'll help me unpack them You say I'm the only one You want to give your love There's nothing to be scared of Nothing to be scared of Nothing to be scared of

about

Deeper Well was co-produced and co-written by Musgraves, with Daniel Tashian and Ian Fitchuk, with the exception of the tracks "Sway", which includes songwriter Tommy English, and "The Architect", which was crafted with Shane McAnally and Josh Osborne.

The eponymous lead single was released with an accompanying music video alongside the album announcement on February 8, 2024

Inspiration for the song came through change in feelings and sentiments that might be off-putting at first but equips one with "new insight and deeper love somewhere else"

It was followed by the second single, "Too Good to Be True", on February 29, 2024. The music video of the second single premiered on March 15, 2024, the same day the album was officially released

about

Kacey Musgraves Golden, Texas

I love words. They're fun. I don't think any word can just be filler. There's no room for it. It's like a puzzle. Every song can be written a million times. How can you say it differently?
